The Felt Mansion Summer Wedding

Our Story

The Beginning

Our story began senior year at the University of Kentucky, where we hit it off immediately. Just after graduation, we discovered we’d both be traveling in Europe. We reconnected in Prague and explored Switzerland and Italy together, realizing our connection was growing into something more. After returning home, we moved to Chicago—close to Jake’s family and a short drive from Maddy’s family in Northville, Michigan—where we spent two years making the most of the city. From biking along Lake Michigan to Sunday dinners, we made countless memories and knew we wanted to build a future together.

The Proposal

An exciting job opportunity then brought us to Colorado, where our love for the outdoors flourished. We spent our free time hiking, snowboarding, and enjoying the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. On December 17, 2022, during a family trip in Tampa for Jake’s sister’s graduation, he proposed in an intimate moment at the end of a dock. The surprise continued with an engagement party, uniting our families in celebration. We’re grateful for the chance that brought us together in college and the adventures we’ve shared since. Our journey has only just begun.

Our Wedding

The Planning

Wedding Colors: Powder blue, eucalyptus green, and white.
Design, Vibe, and Vision: Inspired by northern Michigan’s natural beauty, we envisioned our wedding as an upscale garden party that flowed with the outdoor surroundings. Soft, airy details carried through the day, with blue floral patterns featured on the invitations, table settings, and wedding party attire. To keep the look timeless, we chose mostly white and natural flowers, allowing the florals to complement the venue without overwhelming it.

Venue: The Felt Mansion & Estate was the perfect setting to bring our vision of an upscale garden party to life. Nestled among lush grounds and surrounded by the natural beauty of northern Michigan, the estate’s historic charm and classic architecture complemented our theme effortlessly. The outdoor setting blended seamlessly with our soft, airy decor, allowing the natural landscape to serve as a stunning backdrop. The mansion’s timeless elegance provided a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, setting the stage for an intimate celebration that felt both refined and connected to the outdoors.

The Fashion

Wedding Gown: My Essence of Australia gown was everything I hoped for. I was joined by my mom, mother-in-law, maid of honor, and matron of honor, and we spent a fun day exploring bridal shops in metro Detroit. Though my first choice was beautiful, I eventually fell in love with a completely different gown featuring lace appliqué, a deep V-neck, and a detailed train. Keeping it a secret until the big day made the reveal even more special.

Bridesmaid Dresses: Bella Bridesmaids in Philadelphia helped us find the perfect colors and styles. Their team made remote fittings seamless for my friends across the country, offering fantastic coordination and customer service.

Groomsmen Attire: We chose The Black Tux for the groomsmen, which offered both rental and purchase options and excellent customer service. The online portal made the process simple, ensuring all details were taken care of without hassle.

The Details

Food & Drink: For the summer season, we focused on light, refreshing options. Signature cocktails included Moscow Mules and Old Fashioneds, while appetizers and dinner highlighted Michigan’s local ingredients and seasonal colors.

Florals & Decor: We created a garden-party-inspired look that blended with northern Michigan’s beauty, which The Felt Mansion perfectly provided. Light, summery flowers set an airy ambiance, while blue-patterned china plates and matching goblets added charm. As the evening progressed, candles created a warm glow, ivy draped from the tent, and string lights provided a whimsical sparkle. Floral arrangements of tall centerpieces, delicate bud vases, and a lush head-table display added visual interest without overwhelming the natural setting.

Wedding Cake: Our two-tier cake, adorned with a subtle hydrangea design, complemented the theme with a simple elegance. Almond vanilla with a lemon and raspberry filling made for a delightful treat.

Ceremony & Reception Music: We worked closely with Jake’s childhood Rabbi, Bruce Elder, to create a meaningful ceremony reflecting our love story and the blending of our families and faiths. Seven loved ones shared blessings, adding a personal touch. For the reception, our band began with “The Best Day of Our Lives” by American Authors. Our first dance, to “You” by Dan + Shay, perfectly captured the love and commitment of the day.

Special Moments

First Looks: First looks with my dad, mom, and mother-in-law added deeply personal touches. Seeing Jake for the first time and sharing private vows created priceless memories. The reveal of my dress to my bridesmaids was equally unforgettable.

The Hora: The Hora was a joyous celebration, symbolizing the support of family and friends. Being lifted in chairs, surrounded by loved ones, filled us with warmth and gratitude, reminding us of the strong community that surrounds us.

The Vendors: Our vendor team was essential to making our wedding day perfect. Their professionalism and expertise allowed us to relax and enjoy the day. From florals by Posh Petals to catering by Gilmore, each vendor played a crucial role in bringing our vision to life.

From the planning and attire to the unique personal touches and joyful celebrations, every detail of our wedding day came together beautifully. It was truly the best day of our lives, and we’re endlessly grateful to everyone who made it unforgettable.
